China draws four red lines ahead of Trump's visit to Beijing

The Chinese Embassy in the US has published a list of topics that Beijing considers off-limits for discussion with Washington.

It contains four points. The first is the "Taiwan question." This is followed by "Democracy and human rights," "Paths and political system," and "China's right to development."

The day before, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun emphasized the particular sensitivity of the Taiwan issue in relations with the US at a briefing in Beijing. "China's position against US arms sales to the Chinese region of Taiwan is consistent and clear," Xinhua quoted him as saying.

Today, US President Donald Trump left for Beijing on a state visit. It will last from May 13 to 15. According to the Foreign Ministry representative, Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump will have an in-depth exchange of views on the most important issues concerning China-US relations, as well as "world peace and development."
