Yerevan says it will find solution for rail project to Turkey if no deal with Russia

Armenia is negotiating with Russian partners on the construction of a railway to the border with Turkey, but is ready to find another solution if no agreement is reached.

This was stated to journalists by Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

"Armenia has a historic opportunity to become an alternative chain of trade turnover between East and West. This trade turnover will happen one way or another, and we have a historic opportunity to become an important key hub, and we will not miss this opportunity. Therefore, this issue must be resolved. The section of the railway that is missing and because of which the Gyumri-Kars road is not operating must be built. We are now talking with our Russian colleagues: if we can build it together with them, then it will work out; if not, we will find another solution, but this issue needs to be resolved," he said.

Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the Armenian government would independently restore the railway tracks leading to the borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey. The prime minister assured that the Armenian side would soon begin restoration work on the Gyumri-Akhurik and Akhurik-Turkish border sections.
