New UK defense minister appointed
After the resignation of UK Defense Minister John Healey, Dan Jarvis has been appointed to this position.
According to a statement published by the UK Prime Minister's Office, Dan Jarvis has been appointed as the new UK Defense Minister.
Jarvis previously held positions as state secretary in the Home Office and the Cabinet Office.
UK Defense Minister Healey announced his resignation due to disagreements with Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the defense budget.
Accusing Starmer of refusing to allocate the state funds necessary to protect the country, Healey stated: “You have failed to accomplish this task, and the Treasury did not want to allocate the funds necessary to protect the country during this period of growing threats.”
A few hours after the resignation of Minister Healey, Armed Forces Minister Al Carns also announced his resignation.
The UK Ministry of Defense and the Treasury have been negotiating for several months on how to meet the growing demands for military spending. This situation has led to the delay in the implementation of the UK Defense Investment Plan, which has been ongoing since last year.
