Ecuador president declares official holiday in honor of victory over Germany at 2026 World Cup

Ecuador President Daniel Noboa declared an official holiday in honor of the Ecuadorian national team's victory over Germany (2:1) in the match of the 3rd round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.

The game was played at MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, USA). The main referee was Tori Penso from the USA.

On the second minute, Germany forward Leroy Zane opened the scoring. On the ninth minute, Ecuador forward Nilson Angulo restored parity. On the 77th minute, forward Gonzalo Plata put the South American team ahead.

After three rounds in Group E, the German national team has six points and occupies first place. Ecuador with four points is in third place. Cote d'Ivoire is in second place (6), and Curacao is in fourth (1).
