FIFA committee head personally cancels Balogun's disqualification without knowledge of other members

The author of the decision to cancel the disqualification of American soccer player Folarin Balogun has been named.

This is reported by The Times.

It was the head of the FIFA disciplinary committee, Mohammad Al-Kamali from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is noted that he made this decision without the knowledge of the other seventeen members of the committee.

In the round of 16 match of the 2026 World Cup against Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:0), Balogun received a red card for a foul on defender Tarik Muharemovic. The forward was supposed to miss the match against Belgium. "In accordance with article 27 of the FIFA disciplinary code, the one-match disqualification is replaced by a one-year probationary period," FIFA decided.

Balogun started in the round of 16 match of the World Cup and was substituted in the 92nd minute. The Belgians defeated the United States 4:1.
