Lionel Messi secures Golden Ball for 2026 World Cup early
Argentina national team forward Lionel Messi will receive the Golden Ball of the 2026 World Cup regardless of the outcome of the final match.
On Friday, July 17, an official meeting of the International Football Federation (FIFA) committee on individual awards took place. During the meeting, committee members decided to recognize the 39-year-old Argentine forward as the best player of the current world championship.
In the framework of the 2026 World Cup, Messi took part in seven matches, in which he managed to score eight goals and provide four assists.
The final match of the tournament, in which the teams of Spain and Argentina will meet, is scheduled for Sunday, July 19. The opening whistle will sound at 23:00 Baku time.
