Hungary intends to preserve economic agreements with Russia

Budapest does not intend to terminate or revise existing economic agreements with Russia, including the contract for the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant and agreements on energy supplies.

This was reported to Izvestia by the Hungarian Embassy in Moscow.

The diplomatic mission emphasized that statements previously appearing in the press should not be perceived as an official decision to change bilateral relations.

"The statement quoted in the press cannot be interpreted as a general statement on Hungarian-Russian relations and is not a decision to revise or terminate any agreements affecting our bilateral economic cooperation," the Hungarian diplomatic mission in Russia told the publication.

Earlier, Hungarian Defense Minister Romulus Rusin-Sendi announced the country's intention to change its foreign policy course to restore trust with NATO and EU allies. In addition, the authorities launched an investigation into contacts with Russia by former Foreign Minister Peter Sijjarto. Despite this, Budapest assured that it maintains a course of pragmatic and mutually respectful economic cooperation with Russia.
