Rubio names US goals in Iran
The United States has never set regime change in the Islamic Republic as a goal of its operations against Iran; their main task is preventing Tehran from possessing nuclear weapons.
This was stated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“The US seeks the denuclearization of Iran so that it never has nuclear weapons,” he said at a press conference on the sidelines of ASEAN ministerial events, responding to a question about whether Washington had set itself the goal of changing the government in Iran. “We have never said that our goal is regime change,” added the US secretary of state, emphasizing that American forces have focused on destroying Iran’s military potential.
