U.S. imposed tariffs against 60 trading partners

The U.S. will impose customs tariffs on 60 trading partners under the pretext of combating forced labor.

Reuters reported this, citing a representative of the U.S. administration.

According to him, the tariffs will range from 10% to 12.5%. Restrictive measures will be introduced against 60 countries, including European Union states. The tariffs will take effect at 00:01 on July 24 according to U.S. East Coast time (07:01 Moscow time). Thus, they will effectively replace the temporary global tariffs on American imports that took effect on February 24 for a period of 150 days. For goods that are in transit at that moment, the entry into force of the tariffs is postponed until July 28.

As Reuters notes, a list of goods will be excluded from the tariffs, including oil, gas, fertilizers, certain types of food, as well as goods already subject to U.S. tariffs, including cars, steel, aluminum, and copper. In addition, the tariffs will not apply to goods falling under the free trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Tariffs on countries that, in the opinion of the U.S., have taken measures to combat forced labor will be 10%, and for other states - 12.5%.

The U.S. Supreme Court on February 20 recognized as an overreach of authority the imposition of import tariffs by the U.S. president against other countries under the pretext of the law on economic powers in case of international emergencies. After that, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a decree on imposing tariffs on imports from all countries at a rate of 10%. Then he announced his intention to raise these tariffs to 15%. Global tariffs on American imports at a rate of 10% took effect on February 24 and are in effect for 150 days, until July 24.
