Iran accuses US of attempt to legalize confiscation of state assets

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi warned of the risk of creating a dangerous precedent related to the seizure of state funds, against the backdrop of a proposal to use Iranian assets to cover damages from the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

On Thursday, US President Donald Trump announced Washington's intention to direct frozen Iranian resources under US control toward compensation for potential damage caused to ships and maritime cargo during the ongoing naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz carried out by American forces.

"Those who welcome the use of these funds should remember: once governments begin to consider the confiscation of property as the norm, no one's assets can be considered protected anymore," the head of Iran's foreign policy department wrote on the social network X*.

Arakchi described the seizure of assets from a state as a "dangerous precedent," emphasizing that such actions undermine the principle of inviolability of property and could create a chain reaction in international relations.
