Iran rejects new US proposal on ceasefire

Iran rejected a proposal from US President Donald Trump for a ceasefire that was conveyed to Tehran by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali az-Zaidi.

According to the newspaper, the mediating role of az-Zaidi took place after his recent visit to the White House, where he met with Trump. Details of the American proposal are not disclosed. However, according to Iranian officials, this was the only initiative under consideration. Tehran rejected it because it is not interested in a temporary agreement that does not resolve the issue of control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, on Iranian state television, the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi previously stated that az-Zaidi conveyed Washington's position to Tehran on a possible ceasefire. According to the Foreign Minister, what hinders reaching an agreement is not the lack of mediators, but the "illogical, overly demanding and seeking dominance" approach of the US.
