Iran proposed to Armenia project to expand gas supplies

This was stated by Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad during a meeting with Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan held in Tehran, the Iranian agency Mehr reported.

The Iranian oil minister noted that cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector is based on the supply of Armenian electricity in exchange for Iranian gas.

Nevertheless, Iran has proposed options for expanding cooperation, he added.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to establish a working group on energy issues, with an emphasis on gas supplies. He proposed to start the work of this group as soon as possible, so that at the next negotiations the parties could evaluate the results of its work.
The parties discussed a large volume of potential projects in the energy sector, including the construction of an oil refinery in Armenia, the expansion of bilateral trade, and the implementation of engineering projects in Armenia by Iranian companies.
Paknejad also thanked Armenia for its support of Iran in difficult times and noted the commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
