Turkmenistan condemns attack on ship in Caspian

The Turkmen Foreign Ministry considers attacks on sea vessels in the Caspian Sea unacceptable, the press service of the Turkmen foreign ministry reported.

"On July 25, 2026, messages about an attack on a sea vessel in the Caspian Sea were published in international media. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan declares the inadmissibility of such actions," the statement published on Monday on the website of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry says.

"Turkmenistan, as a Caspian state and a country with the status of permanent neutrality recognized by the United Nations, emphasizes that the Caspian is a sea of peace, harmony, and good-neighborliness," the statement notes.

Earlier, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reported that early Saturday morning, July 25, Ukrainian military forces struck a vessel flying the Iranian flag in the Caspian Sea, resulting in one sailor being killed and another wounded. The vessel with civilian cargo was heading from the Russian port of Astrakhan to the Iranian port of Enzeli.

The head of the Iranian parliament's commission on foreign policy and national security, Ebrahim Azizi, stated that the Ukrainian strike on the Iranian commercial vessel will not go unanswered. "For any attack on Iran, one always has to pay, and this remains relevant today as well," Azizi wrote on the social network X.
