Negotiations between Tehran and Washington not underway, Iranian foreign ministry says
Iran is currently not conducting any negotiations with the US, said official representative of the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry Ismail Bagai.
"We have never avoided using the diplomatic tool to protect our national interests. As long as the other side is engaged in aggression and attacks on Iran, our attention is focused exclusively on defense... At the moment, no negotiations with the US are being conducted," Bagai said in a live broadcast on Iranian state television.
According to him, as long as the US does not change its positions, it is impossible to start a "reasonable" diplomatic process with them.
Trump stated on July 8 that the ceasefire reached with Iran on the night of June 18 is no longer in effect. US military forces have conducted several series of attacks on Iran since July 8. The US Central Command claimed that this was done in response to Iran's actions against commercial vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran responded with strikes on US bases in several Middle Eastern countries, closed the Strait of Hormuz, and accused Washington of violating the memorandum on cessation of hostilities.
