Large-scale forest fires continue to rage in France and Spain
Emergency services in Spain and France continue to battle large-scale forest fires, striving to contain the fire sources before a new heat wave arrives.
As The Guardian reports, authorities in both countries are warning of a critical situation.
According to Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Monday and Tuesday will be decisive days in the fight against the fire. The most difficult situation remains in the province of Avila, where the fire has engulfed about 50,000 hectares. The total area of fires in the country has reached approximately 70,000 hectares.
In France, forecasters predict temperatures rising to 40°C. The most dangerous fire is active in the Gironde department, where, according to the Interior Ministry, 42,000 hectares have already burned.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez stated that the flames are spreading unpredictably and creating local wind currents. President Emmanuel Macron, who visited Bordeaux, called on the country's residents to show resilience.
It is noted that, according to French authorities, since the beginning of the year the area of burned forests and vegetation in the country has exceeded 116,000 hectares.
