Families of 9/11 victims demand to bar Zohran Mamdani from ceremony

Hundreds of families of victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks demanded to bar New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani from the annual memorial ceremony.

This is reported by the newspaper The New York Post.

According to the publication, the petition has already been signed by about 5,500 people, including about 300 relatives of the deceased. The authors of the appeal claim that Zohran Mamdani maintained ties with people who justified jihad, extremism and terrorism, and also downplayed the scale of the September 11 tragedy. The document also mentions his previous statements in which, as claimed, the United States was accused of creating conditions for attacks on themselves.

The authors of the petition emphasize that the 25th anniversary of the attacks should be dedicated to the memory of the victims, the unity of society and the unconditional condemnation of violence and extremism. Giovanni Galante, whose wife died during the attacks, stated that the presence of Zohran Mamdani would be "extremely offensive and inappropriate."

Sheri Sparacio, who lost her husband, also called his participation a manifestation of disrespect to the families of the victims.

Organizers reported that Zohran Mamdani is among the invited officials, however, he will not speak at the ceremony. The mayor's office stated that he intends to attend the event.
