Moldova introduces emergency regime in energy sector due to fuel shortage
The government of Moldova announced the introduction of an alert regime in the energy sector for a period of 30 days.
The decision is related to the fuel shortage in the country and was made at a special meeting of the cabinet of ministers, said Prime Minister of the republic Vasile Tofan, reports «Sputnik Moldova».
«The drop in water level in the Danube River led to disruptions in the supply of petroleum products by barges to the port of Giurgiulesti, which has already caused a shortage of fuel at dozens of gas stations on the eve of the active agricultural season», explained Tofan at the meeting.
He added that difficulties arose due to logistical failures in Romania, from where the republic receives 70% of diesel fuel. There are no diesel reserves at 53 gas stations out of about 600 operating in the country.
The authorities clarified that the resolution on the introduction of the alert regime will come into force after publication in the «Official Gazette».
Earlier, Moldova received 65–70% of electricity from supplies from the Moldavskaya GRES, located in Transnistria. It stopped supplying electricity on January 1, 2025.
