Blatter states that Infantino and Trump harm football

Close communication between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump harms world football.

Former FIFA President Joseph Blatter stated this on his page on the social network X.

"Close relations between the head of FIFA and the US President have reached a financial dimension that causes deep damage to football. No one has the right to sell our game," Blatter wrote.

Earlier, The Times reported that Infantino plans to sell a stake in the commercial rights to the World Cup to private investors as part of a scheme that could potentially bring him tens of millions of pounds. Two sources at the publication reported consultations with individuals close to the administration of US President Donald Trump. Each of the 211 FIFA member associations could receive a stake worth about $20 million. Infantino could take the post of commissioner of the new company.

The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams for the first time. Earlier, Infantino told the Blue Sport portal that FIFA could consider increasing the number of participants in the world championship to 64 teams.
