Turkey brings 202 of 206 wildfires under control

The Turkish presidential administration reported that 202 of the 206 wildfires that have broken out in the country over the past three days have been brought under control.

"Since July 29, 206 fires have been extinguished across the country, 133 of which were outside forested areas. 202 of these fires have been fully brought under control," the administration's communications department said in a statement.

According to the department, efforts are currently under way to extinguish wildfires in four regions: in Alanya in Antalya province, in Gülnar-Aydıncık in Mersin province on the Mediterranean coast, and in the Gömeç district of Balıkesir province in western Turkey. The situation remains difficult for now in the Çine district of the southern province of Aydın. "Strong winds the previous evening hampered the fight against the fire, but firefighting crews are making every effort to bring the fire under control as soon as possible," the statement noted.

An aviation and ground force grouping of the Ministry of Agriculture is taking part in extinguishing forest fires in Turkey. It consists of 28 airplanes, 119 helicopters, 14 unmanned aerial vehicles, and more than 5,000 pieces of equipment. "Firefighting crews, deployed at more than 1,600 locations, are working around the clock in order to respond to fires as quickly as possible," the release states.
