U.S. urges its citizens to leave the Middle East over threat of escalation with Iran

The U.S. embassies in Israel and a number of other Middle Eastern countries have urged American citizens to be ready to leave the region immediately because of a "potential unforeseen escalation" of the conflict with Iran.

According to The Times of Israel, the diplomatic missions' statements described the Iranian regime as "unpredictable."

"The Iranian regime is unpredictable, as evidenced by its recent decisions to attack areas of the region without warning, as well as to expand the zone of attacks to areas that had not previously come under attack (for example, Egypt)," the text of the warning emphasizes.

American citizens planning to transit through the Middle East or visit the region were strongly advised to reconsider their plans. At the same time, the embassies specified that they remain open to provide services to American citizens and to issue visas.
