In France, the number of people detained over wildfires has risen to 375

French police have detained 375 people on suspicion of involvement in starting forest fires.

This was reported by the newspaper Le Figaro, citing data from the republic's Interior Ministry.

Of the 375 detainees, 142 are minors.

Earlier, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said that overall the country's authorities have the situation with forest fires under control. In particular, it was possible to contain the wildfire in the Gironde department in southwestern France. At the same time, in the Var department in the southern part of the republic, firefighters have so far been unable to bring the flames under control.

Fires in Europe, in particular in Spain and France, have reached record scale this year. The European Commission previously reported that 13 airplanes and 4 helicopters, as well as hundreds of firefighters from across the European Union, have been mobilized to extinguish them through the EU civil protection mechanism.
