U.S. imposes sanctions against Russian Defense Ministry entities

The United States has imposed sanctions against certain Russian entities, including two directorates of the Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian Ground Forces.

This was announced by the State Department, which posted a notice in the Federal Register, TASS reports.

The decision was reportedly made due to violations of U.S. domestic legislation on the nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their delivery systems, such as cruise and ballistic missile systems, with respect to Iran, North Korea, and Syria.

This concerns the transfer to these three countries, or the purchase from them, of goods, services, and technologies that fall under American restrictions.

The restrictive measures took effect on July 24. The list includes the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate and the Directorate for Advanced Interservice Research and Special Projects of the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ground Forces, and the 1061st logistics support center.
