Latvia will consider fully closing its border with Belarus
Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs stated that the republic will consider the question of fully closing the border with Belarus.
His words were reported by the Latvian news portal LETA.
"The country must use all available solutions to strengthen security and reduce migration pressure," Kulbergs shared.
He specified that Latvia's Interior Ministry has proposed that the republic's government fully close the border with Belarus, and the issue will be considered at a meeting on August 4. However, all decisions must be based on facts and statistics.
A day earlier, the spokesman for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, Ruslan Varankov, said that the closure of the borders by Latvia may be linked to the country's upcoming elections in October.
He drew attention to the fact that this decision was made "on an urgent basis" personally by Latvia's interior minister, the leader of one of the political forces, Janis Dombrava.
