Messi donates €80,000 to restore fire-hit area in the province of Madrid
Lionel Messi has donated 80,000 euros to the restoration of a fire-damaged area near Madrid
Inter Miami and Argentina national team forward Lionel Messi has sent 80,000 euros for restoration work in the Sierra Oeste area in the province of Madrid, which was damaged by large-scale forest fires.
The donation was announced by the head of the government of the autonomous community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. She thanked the soccer player for his support and noted that residents of the region hope to express their gratitude to him in person soon.
Forest fires broke out in Spain amid intense heat. At the end of July, it was reported that because of the blazes in the Madrid region, more than 115,000 people were evacuated or advised to stay at home. The fire engulfed about 27,000 hectares of territory across 17 municipalities.
Sierra Oeste is known for its natural areas and developed agriculture.
