Thai authorities suspend the issuance of gun licenses in the country

Thailand's head of government and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has suspended the issuance of firearms licenses in the country.

The prime minister ordered tougher control measures and punishments for violations in cases of illegal possession of weapons. He instructed that the renewal of licenses to carry them be halted, since some of them must be reviewed. The head of government emphasized that registered firearms must be kept at their owners' homes and cannot be brought into public places.

The kingdom's authorities intend to introduce a special period during which citizens will be able to surrender illegal weapons. At the same time, law enforcement agencies will step up road inspections to detect them.

On August 7, it was reported that a ninth-grade student at the Thepsirin Nonthaburi secondary school, widely known in Thailand, on the outskirts of Bangkok, opened fire at the school, firing more than 30 shots from a pistol. As a result of the shooting, seven people did not survive, including the shooter himself.
