Hearings in the Diego Maradona death case postponed

Hearings into the death of legendary Argentine soccer player Diego Maradona have been interrupted because of an error in medical documents.

As the TN television channel reports, the court has suspended its examination of the circumstances of the athlete's death, and the next session has been scheduled for a week later.

The incident occurred on August 20 at the resumed session. At the very beginning, the judge called a recess after a discrepancy was discovered in the death report: it used test results from 2015 that belonged not to Maradona himself, but to his father, who bore the same name. In addition, the court ordered the insurance company and the clinic where the soccer player was treated to provide a complete set of documents relating to his medical record.

Back in June 2022, Argentina's Attorney General's Office charged eight medical workers with negligent homicide under aggravating circumstances. They face from 8 to 25 years in prison. The investigation focuses on events that took place during the soccer player's home treatment after head surgery. Maradona died on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60. The cause of death was acute heart failure, which led to pulmonary edema.
