U.S. ambassador recalled from Turkey after scandal over accusations against Israel

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack has been recalled from Ankara and may not return to his duties as head of the diplomatic mission amid claims against Israel over the Golan Heights, American journalist Laura Loomer asserts, citing State Department representatives.

"We want him gone so badly that we may even hire movers to pack his things for him," Loomer quotes an unnamed State Department employee as saying on the social network X.

The reason was that Barrack accused Israel of illegal settlement activity in the Golan Heights, the journalist specified.

However, the diplomat later retracted his words, explaining that he had meant exclusively the historical context.

Israel took most of the Golan Heights from Syria during the 1967 war, and in 1981 extended its legislation to that territory. The UN Security Council, in Resolution 497, declared this decision null and void and without international legal effect.
