Greece to challenge EU measures against Russia-linked vessels

The Greek parliamentary party "Greek Solution" intends to appeal to the country's and Europe's judicial authorities over the possible use of the EU's IRINI mission to detain ships and tankers that Brussels considers linked to Russia.

This was stated to the newspaper "Izvestia" by the party's leader, Kyriakos Velopoulos.

According to him, the party also intends to raise this issue in the Greek parliament and the European Parliament. Velopoulos believes that such "reckless initiatives risk increasing tensions and jeopardizing the safety of navigation and the legitimate commercial interests of Greece and other EU member states."

Member of the European Parliament Fernand Kartheiser told the publication that the absence of clear criteria for identifying suspicious vessels could complicate the EU's relations not only with Russia but also with third countries.
"Any action against a Russian vessel could quickly escalate into a serious international crisis," he told the publication.
