A supertanker struck mines in the Strait of Hormuz
A supertanker struck mines while attempting to use an "illegal route" in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
This was reported by the Fars agency, citing a statement by the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
As stated in the IRGC statement, the vessel struck two mines. The incident occurred several hours ago, the report specifies.
"The IRGC Navy warns once again that this is precisely the fate awaiting vessels that violate the rules of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Compliance with the rules of passage through the strait and navigation in it announced by the IRGC Navy is mandatory," the agency quotes the IRGC Navy statement as saying.
The report does not provide any details about the vessel's owners, nor does it specify whether it was loaded and which country it might have been heading to.
