German Foreign Ministry summons Russian ambassador after drone incident at Leipzig airport

Germany's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Russia's ambassador in Berlin, Sergei Nechaev. The reason was the drone incident in Leipzig.

This was announced during a press conference by the head of the German foreign policy agency, Johann Wadephul, RIA Novosti reports.

"I have given the order to summon the Russian ambassador. This meeting is taking place right now," the diplomat stated.

On September 1, the German government officially placed the blame on Russia for the drone incident at the Leipzig/Halle airport. The German authorities announced the closure of the Russian consulate general and the Russian House in Berlin. In addition, they intend to tighten controls on the entry of Russians into Germany and will initiate the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions at the EU level.
