"Tehran is not ready yet": The U.S. on the prospects for peace with Iran
The United States would like to conclude a peace deal with Iran, but believes that Tehran is not yet ready for such a development.
This was stated on September 1 by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
"President [of the United States Donald] Trump said that the reason the memorandum of understanding failed was their unreadiness for a deal. We'll see when they are ready for a deal," the head of the Treasury Department said, answering questions from journalists.
He claimed that with U.S. assistance "17 million barrels of oil were shipped out yesterday" through the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent allowed for the possibility that, in response to American economic restrictions, the Islamic Republic will resort more actively to military means.
