Sybiha: Ukraine does not strike Kazakhstan's facilities
Ukraine does not carry out strikes on Kazakh facilities and commercial vessels, said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
"No facilities of Kazakhstan have ever been a target of a Ukrainian strike. The root cause of all such incidents is Russian aggression," Sybiha emphasized in an interview with the Kazakh outlet Ulysmedia.
According to him, Kyiv and Astana are conducting a pragmatic dialogue to prevent a repetition of such incidents. At the same time, the minister emphasized that Ukraine considers its right to strike in response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure to be legitimate.
Sybiha highly praised the position of Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the issue of the war and called him a person "capable of playing a notable diplomatic role."
The minister noted that during the meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Kazakhstan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the possibility of Kazakhstan's participation in the peace process was discussed. In particular, the option of holding a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin in Astana was considered.
"We believe that it is President Tokayev who, given his geopolitical role and wisdom, can organize such a meeting," Sybiha added.
The minister stated that the United States remains a key participant in the peace process. According to him, without Washington's leadership and the personal involvement of President Trump, it will be difficult to achieve a lasting and just peace. At the same time, Kyiv is counting on a strengthening of the role of its European allies. "These are not alternative but complementary tracks," the head of the ministry emphasized.
Answering a question about possible security guarantees as an alternative to NATO membership, Sybiha noted that they must be legally binding and ratified by the parliaments of partner countries.
Among the possible mechanisms, he named bilateral guarantees from the United States, the presence of allied forces in Ukraine, EU membership, and a strong Ukrainian army.
