Naryshkin: The EU is trying to destabilize the CIS

European elites are making serious efforts to undermine stability in the CIS, and the European Union intends to support protest sentiment through humanitarian non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

This was stated by the director of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, at the 22nd meeting of the Conference of Heads of Security Agencies and Intelligence Services of the CIS countries.

"In March of this year, Paris put forward the concept of advanced nuclear deterrence, proposing that its European partners move under the French nuclear umbrella. While making attempts to revive the spirit of the Wehrmacht in Europe, European elites are at the same time making serious efforts to undermine stability in the countries of the Commonwealth," he said.

"Through the European Endowment for Democracy alone, hundreds of millions of euros are awarded annually for the work of so-called humanitarian NGOs in the post-Soviet space. Their main unofficial role is to keep society in a state of constant division and threats, to stimulate a consumerist attitude toward the authorities and protest sentiment. The most promising projects in this regard are considered to be those supporting the youth movement, the activities of pseudo-journalists, investigators and so-called party building. In order to promote them, Brussels is determined to continue obstructing the adoption by CIS states of laws aimed at protecting their sovereignty and security," Naryshkin added.
