FIFA confirms Infantino's participation in the 2027 elections

The current president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, will take part in the March 2027 elections.

As 1news.az reports, this was announced by journalist Rob Harris on his page on the social network X, citing a source in the organization.

"The FIFA president announced in April that he would run for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Infantino will run for re-election," he said.

Note that the 56-year-old Infantino was elected head of FIFA at an extraordinary congress in February 2016. He was later re-elected to this post twice.

Earlier, Infantino lost the support of UEFA amid plans to transfer part of the rights to host the World Cup to private investors. According to Infantino's idea, this would make it possible to increase the revenues of FIFA member associations and promote the development of football in the world. The initiative was criticized by a number of football officials, federations and organizations. It was opposed by UEFA, CONCACAF, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL).
