Witkoff announces progress after talks in Moscow and Kyiv
U.S. President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has announced substantial progress in settling the Ukrainian conflict following the American side's talks in Moscow and Kyiv.
"Significant progress was made, including an agreement on additional trilateral meetings," Witkoff wrote on his page on X.
According to him, during the visit to Kyiv, representatives of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany joined the American delegation. The parties worked together on finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. Witkoff also emphasized that U.S. President Donald Trump continues to make efforts to achieve peace.
On September 5, Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner held a meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin. An aide to the Russian leader, Yuri Ushakov, reported that the talks lasted more than three hours and were substantive and constructive in nature.
The following day, the American negotiators met in Kyiv with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the meeting, they stated their intention to achieve a breakthrough in the negotiations on settling the conflict before the onset of winter.
The German newspaper Berliner Zeitung noted, meanwhile, that the American delegation's visit took place against the backdrop of worsening sentiment in Kyiv and mounting problems facing Zelensky.
