Iran claims attacks on two U.S. destroyers and U.S. fighter jet basing sites in Jordan

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had carried out missile strikes on two U.S. Navy destroyers and on American troops stationed at the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near the city of Al-Azraq in Jordan.

"The IRGC announced successful missile strikes on two U.S. Navy destroyers — DDG-119 and DDG-53 — equipped with cruise missiles and Aegis missile defense systems, in response to aggressive U.S. actions against Iranian oil tankers and vessels," the statement said.

Earlier, the U.S. Central Command in the Middle East (CENTCOM) stated that American armed forces had destroyed five Iranian oil tankers in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in response to an attack on a U.S. Navy ship.

Regarding the missile strike on the U.S. fighter jet basing sites in Jordan, the IRGC stated that during the operation "a significant number of ballistic missiles, both solid-fuel and liquid-fuel, struck the maintenance, preparation, and deployment sites of F-35, F-16, and F-15 fighter jets, as well as their shelters, inflicting serious damage on the enemy."

Earlier, the Al Jazeera television channel reported that Iranian air defenses had intercepted eight Iranian missiles. The interception was carried out over the Jordanian capital of Amman and other cities. As the channel noted, this may be the most intense barrage, with the largest number of missiles fired by Iran in response to U.S. attacks in recent days.
