Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to resume passenger transportation on the Caspian - PHOTO
This was reported by Kazakhstan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel.
According to the diplomat, the Kazakh side proposed that Azerbaijan resume passenger transportation on the ferry line port of Kuryk - port of Baku - port of Kuryk. These services operated until 2020 and were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alim Bayel noted that before they were halted, about 1,500 passengers a year used passenger transportation across the Caspian Sea. He expressed confidence that in the coming period there will be even more people wishing to travel along this route. The relaunch of the ferry line will give impetus to the development of passenger service between the two countries, strengthen tourist exchange and expand the opportunities of the Middle Corridor.
The Ambassador said that the Azerbaijani side supported Kazakhstan's proposal. Currently, the transport agencies of the two countries have begun work on the earliest possible resumption of passenger service.
Today, 37 flights operate between Baku and such cities of Kazakhstan as Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, Aktau and Atyrau.
