Iran appoints new consul general in Armenia

Iranian Foreign Ministry official Davoud Yaiji has become the country's new consul general in the city of Kapan, reports the Telegram channel of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Yaiji has diplomatic experience in Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, and Russia. In his new post, he will replace Morteza Abedin Varamin, the first consul general in Kapan, who began work in 2021.

Before arriving in Armenia, Yaiji met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and presented his plan of work in the new post. Araghchi wished the diplomat success and emphasized the importance of relations between Iran and Armenia within the framework of the good-neighborliness policy. The minister noted the need to deepen cooperation in the economic and consular spheres.

According to Armenian media, Yaiji will begin work in the near future.
