Trump promised Americans $5,000 each for a Republican victory in Congress

U.S. President Donald Trump promised that all adult Americans will receive $5,000 each if the Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress following the country's midterm elections.

"I promise the following: if the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, both chambers, thanks to our economic successes <...> I will pay dividends to every adult citizen of the United States in the amount of $5,000," he said, speaking on the evening of September 9 in Dallas at the national convention of the ruling Republican Party, which is being held ahead of the November midterm elections to the U.S. Congress.

Trump emphasized that Americans "will have to spend this money in the United States." According to him, "this will be called the Trump dividend."

The midterm elections to Congress will take place on November 3, at which 33 of the 100 members of the Senate of Congress and all 435 members of the House of Representatives will be reelected. The Republicans currently control both chambers of the legislative body.
