Yonhap: North Korea launches ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan
On Saturday, September 12, North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan.
According to the Yonhap news agency, citing South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, the launches were detected from the Wonsan area at around 05:20 local time (00:20 Baku time).
The projectiles flew about 250 kilometers and fell into the waters of the sea. According to sources, Pyongyang presumably practiced a series of consecutive launches of "Hwasong-11" ballistic missiles and 600 mm caliber multiple launch rocket systems. South Korean and American military are jointly analyzing the exact characteristics of the launched munitions.
The armed forces of the DPRK conducted the tests a day after the completion of joint military exercises by South Korea, the United States, and Japan. The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command stated that it is holding close consultations with allies in the region, emphasizing that this launch poses no immediate threat to American territory or its partners.
