Leader of the far-right party that won in Saxony-Anhalt hinted at deporting migrants by force of arms

The leader of the German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Saxony-Anhalt, which won the local elections, has come under a barrage of criticism after he hinted at the use of weapons for deportations, Tagesschau reports.

Speaking to the media recently, the leader of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt, Ulrich Siegmund, stated that the party "does not categorically condemn the production of weapons, because we will naturally need such resources for the coming offensive with remigration and deportations."

The leader of the Left Party faction, Sören Pellmann, drew parallels between Siegmund's statements and the actions of the Nazis in the 1930s. "Like the Nazis back then, these enemies of democracy state outright what they are planning to do. No one should say afterwards that 'they didn't know,'" he responded.
The leader of the Greens, Felix Banaszak, called Siegmund's statements alarming and an indication that the AfD "is ready to cross all legal boundaries for the sake of its goals."
Criticism also came from the ranks of the left-wing populist BSW, where situational cooperation with the far right has so far been considered possible.

In response to follow-up questions from German media regarding this statement, Ulrich Siegmund said that he was speaking about weapons in a broader sense of the word. "This includes not only weapons, but also equipment, technology, protective technologies and other resources on which the Bundeswehr, the police and security structures depend," the politician said.

As a reminder, in the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt on September 6, Alternative for Germany won a historic victory, but without the absolute majority that it had hoped for there.
