Death toll from ferry fire in the Philippines rises to 76

The death toll from the fire aboard the ferry MV June Aster in the province of Palawan in the Philippines has risen to 76 people.

As 1news.az reports, citing Philippine media, this was stated in a report by the Philippine Coast Guard.

According to the information, 13 people are listed as missing. A search-and-rescue operation is continuing at the scene.

Authorities reported that 43 people survived the fire. Two more people listed on the passenger manifest said they had not boarded the vessel.

Thus, according to the passenger list, 134 people could have been aboard the ferry. Authorities note that these figures may change as search-and-rescue work continues and the victims are identified.

To recall, the fire on the ferry occurred on the evening of September 9. Initially, five deaths were reported, later the number of victims rose to 35, and then to 76 people. The causes of the fire are being determined.
