Hamilton crashed his Ferrari, while Antonelli on a Mercedes conquered Madrid: drama and speed at the "Madring"
Italian Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli posted the best result in the third free practice session of the 14th round of the Formula 1 championship — the Spanish Grand Prix, which is taking place on September 12 at the "Madring" circuit in Madrid, 1news.az reports.
Antonelli covered his best lap in 1 minute 32.797 seconds. The second-best time was set by Monaco's Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who was 0.166 seconds behind. Third was Australian Oscar Piastri of McLaren, 0.189 seconds off the pace.
The session was halted by red flags after a crash involving British Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton. He lost control and was unable to make the corner, after which his car hit the wall. The running was interrupted for several minutes for repairs to the barrier.
In the final minute of practice, the red flags were raised again due to a crash involving British Haas driver Oliver Bearman, after which the session was ended early.
Later that day, qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix will take place ahead of Sunday's race.
Following the 13th round of the Formula 1 season — the Italian Grand Prix at Monza — Antonelli strengthened his lead in the drivers' standings. On September 6, he took victory after starting from 19th position. His teammate, Briton George Russell, finished second, and Dutchman Max Verstappen of Red Bull was third.
