Infantino reveals whether he plans to run in the FIFA election

The current president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, has confirmed that he will put forward his candidacy in the next election for the head of the organization.

As 1news.az reports, his words are cited by The Touchline.

"Of course, I will be a candidate in next year's election. My program, or my slogan, if you like, is very simple, but at the same time very clear: 'Football belongs to everyone, all over the world.' That is what we are striving for. That is what I am striving for. That is what we at FIFA are striving to achieve," he said.

The scandal surrounding Infantino arose after he announced, shortly after the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, plans to sell part of the rights to outside investors, which provoked a negative reaction in the football community and threats to boycott the 2030 World Cup. The Union of European Football Associations, the Asian Football Confederation, and the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football accused Infantino of deception in connection with the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which was aimed at the idea of selling the rights. FIFA abandoned this idea after the wave of criticism and dissatisfaction with the project.

A number of countries have already refused to support Infantino in the upcoming election for the head of FIFA.

Earlier, more than 100,000 people demanded that FIFA investigate Infantino's actions.
