A drone over Lithuania was shot down by Italian fighter jets.
This was reported by ASTRA.
Meanwhile, the debris of the unmanned aerial vehicle has already been found. Military personnel and Lithuanian police officers are working at the site.
"Briefly about the events of last night: at approximately midnight, an object flying in the direction of Lithuania was spotted in the airspace. At around 0:20, the identified drone was shot down by allied fighter jets from Italy, which took off from the Šiauliai air base," the Lithuanian Armed Forces reported.
It is not yet known exactly which drone was shot down or whether it carried explosives.
"The police and the military police are working in a heightened mode. We need to assess the situation, collect the debris, determine what the object was and what its purpose was… The debris does not yet allow us to determine whether it was a combat drone," said Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the National Crisis Management Center.
