Hakan Fidan on the Azerbaijani-Armenian peace process

Azerbaijan and Turkey intend to further develop cooperation in the field of defense and security.

As 1news.az reports, this was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a joint briefing with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Baku.

He noted that raising Azerbaijani-Turkish relations to the level of alliance has created a solid foundation for cooperation in the field of defense and security.

"The joint exercises conducted between our armed forces, the activities for exchanging education and experience, as well as the deepening cooperation between our defense industry structures are concrete manifestations of this partnership on the ground. In the coming period, we are determined to continue our activities in this area in line with our mutual needs and capabilities," Hakan Fidan said.

He recalled that during the years of the occupation of Karabakh, Turkey supported Azerbaijan's just position.

"Today our main priority is the sustainable provision of peace, stability and well-being in the region. We observe with satisfaction the progress achieved recently toward the attainment of a final peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as Azerbaijan's constructive position on this issue," the minister stated.

Fidan emphasized that the completion of the peace process will make it possible to begin a new era of cooperation in the region.

"We believe that with the completion of this process, a new era of cooperation will begin in our region. We wish for the South Caucasus to be known not for conflicts, but for peace, transport, energy, trade and economic development. The strength of the brotherhood of Turkey and Azerbaijan will continue to play a key role in achieving this goal," the foreign minister noted.
