U.S. approves visas for Iranian leaders to attend UN General Assembly

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has approved visas for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to take part in the high-level week of the UN General Assembly in New York.

This was reported by the Associated Press (AP).

The State Department said that Iran's "core delegation" received visas, as well as the staff needed for its work. "In accordance with our obligations as the host country, the core delegation of the Iranian regime will be able to take part in the high-level week of the UN General Assembly," the agency stated.

The Iranian delegation will be subject to travel restrictions, and its members will be barred from purchasing luxury goods and certain other items. The State Department also noted that in 2026 the delegation will be smaller than in 2025.

The decision was made against the backdrop of a conflict between the United States and Iran that has been going on for more than six months, and was announced a day after the State Department refused to issue visas to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation for participation in the session of the UN General Assembly.
