"I'm back": WikiLeaks founder resurfaces after two years of silence
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has published his first post on X in two years, in which he stated that he is "back."
"I'm back," Assange wrote.
His last message on X was published on June 28, 2024, shortly after his release from a British prison.
Since 2019, Assange had been held in the high-security Belmarsh prison in the United Kingdom, where he was placed after being expelled from the premises of the Ecuadorian Embassy in the British capital. For more than five years, Washington sought his extradition to the United States from London, but Assange's defense made ever new attempts to prevent this.
As part of a deal with U.S. prosecutors, Assange pleaded guilty in court to criminal conspiracy to obtain and disseminate classified information. For this offense, the Australian was sentenced to the term of imprisonment he had already served in the British prison. On June 26, 2024, Assange returned to Australia, where his family lives.
