European Commission allocates €3.3 billion to Ukraine for weapons purchases
The European Commission (EC) is sending Kyiv €3.3 billion for weapons purchases as part of a €90 billion loan to support Ukraine.
This was announced by EC President Ursula von der Leyen.
"Today we are allocating €3.3 billion for the purchase of drones and missiles under the loan to support Ukraine. Europe will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary support to protect its people and its territory," von der Leyen is quoted as saying in a press release from the European Commission.
The statement notes that the tranche is intended to cover Kyiv's needs in the field of air defense, including PAC-3 missiles for Patriot systems. On September 11, the European Commission approved the allocation of €6.1 billion for Ukraine's air and missile defense and other defense needs.
