Susan Sarandon detained at a pro-Palestinian rally outside the UN in New York – VIDEO
American actress Susan Sarandon was detained during a pro-Palestinian protest outside the UN headquarters in New York.
The rally took place on September 24 against the backdrop of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech at the UN General Assembly.
According to Reuters, S. Sarandon was among at least 30 people detained by police. Among them was also actress Hannah Einbinder, known for the series "Hacks."
Participants in the action spoke out against Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip and called for an end to arms supplies to Israel. Demonstrators in identical white T-shirts bearing the slogans "Fund people, not bombs" and "Free Palestine" blocked traffic on one of the streets near the UN. After police demanded that they clear the roadway, the protesters who remained in place were detained.
Susan Sarandon has publicly spoken out in support of Palestine before – in September, the actress also talked about the professional consequences of her political statements, saying that she had lost several roles.
